Our dedication & passion is to recover our natural environment and the species that are dependent upon it. Without plants and insects, humans cannot survive. Everything we do with our time on this planet has benefits and consequences to the future of all species that will continue on after our species is gone.
We use only natural growing methods. No pesticides are used on our products. Our products are intended for use in nature as host and nectar sources as well as for dietary purposes of mammalian wildlife.
We are a small single owner operated organization with a wonderful crew, and provide habitat restoration services in Wisconsin & Minnesota. Our company goal is to supply, affordable, high quality natural grown seeds & plants for restoration projects for private landowners as well as government services.
We supply only pure, true native species. No cultivars. We dedicate our time to making our environment better every year.
Our services include restoration of prairie, wetland, woodland as well as invasive species removal (buckthorn, Reed canary grass, etc.), forestry work such as land clearing and re-planting, silviculture, tree installation, and much more.
We do not send mail order catalogs for our products in our efforts to decrease deforestation.
"There is no better feeling in the world than restoring the land to the way it once was and to see our sites thrive and bring life back to the environment. One day in the field is worth 20 in the lab. I'm glad to be able to change the way at which environmental work is done in the United States and to set new standards for others that are trying to do the same work." - Matthew Swank
We dedicate hundreds of hours of research to seed germination testing each year. Bringing you the highest quality tested seeds with proper growing information. Many germination methods found online are not true and tested. We live in the copy and paste age where scientists don't want to do the actual work. We do not cut corners. Critical thinking, common sense & logic are your best tools when searching for the answers. We do the important research so you don't have to. Ensuring our customers have the greatest chance of success is what we strive for.
We offer high quality seeds and mixes for restoration projects and private landowners.
We also have a gourmet food line that we distribute nationwide. The owner, Matthew Swank starting the food line early on in the business when he would do farmers markets to promote the importance of native plants for the benefit of our environment and wildlife. He started selling vegetable plants as a way to grow the business into what he eventually wanted. During the process, he harvested hundreds of pounds of tomatoes and created his unique recipes that are now shipped and enjoyed across the United States and can be found in stores locally. Matthew enjoys cooking meals with his children, creating, and sharing his knowledge of culinary science. "There are no limits to what you can come up with as a food creationist. You start with a few simple ingredients and work your way to something tasty from there." - Matthew Swank
A percentage of all proceeds are donated to habitat restoration for insects, wildlife, water & air purification and erosion control.
Our dedication to nature is due to the extreme reduction in insect, bird and wildlife species populations in the last four decades. Another major concern is the reduction of native vegetation due to urbanization and large scale crop farming. We have currently eradicated 85% of all natural areas in the United States, which means only 15% of previous species populations are able to be supported, thereby causing mass extinctions in as little as two decades.
Let's be better stewards of this planet so we can enjoy it and pass it on to our future generations.
Ask yourself these questions:
Am I growing mostly beneficial native plants on my property?
Is there more turf grass than native? If so, how can I reduce this in a way that works for my property?
Am I interfering with natural insect processes by using a hands-on approach instead of letting nature take it's course?
Am I more concerned about the aesthetic value of my property or the future of living organisms on the planet?
Thank you.
